Harriet ElkertonThe core of Harriet's practice is materials: whether using pure white porcelain or combining with contrasting discarded materials; thus causing an internal debate regarding the value placed on materials that were discarded but now considered and carefully constructed.
Harriet slip-casts vessels with undulating organic lines; the moulds formed from paper models. She crafts 'tools', the result of considering the concept of function. The pieces have a familiarity to them, because of their references to commonplace objects, yet the purpose is questioned. Derived from these curious vessels, she has created a functional range of ceramics, taking ideas of function full circle.
