Kate Welton Ceramics
Kate Welton CeramicsWorking in ceramics, Kate is inspired by traditional gardening tools and processes. Sieves, watering can roses and seed packets gathered from her grandfather's shed all posses a simple beauty, whilst unchanged activities such as sowing and cultivating offer a sense of longevity. Drawing is integral to her practice, and the forms of these garden tools are considered and abstracted, creating a catalogue of surface pattern designs. Thrown bowls and press moulded pieces provide a canvas onto which Kate paints with slips, using a variety of techniques to build up layers of decoration.
