Melin Medi - fibre and fine art exhibition: Saturday 11th - Thursday 30th September 2010.
New Mill’s latest exhibition eliminates the understanding that fibre and textile arts are widely regarded as the archetypal form of women’s work. A unique fusion of artworks using the medium of video, weave, stitch and fibre that have been influenced by the Mill’s impressive grounds will reveal a very different story to the exhibition’s audience.
Created specifically to be shown in the open, the artists have produced work that will be exposed to the elements over a number of months, giving the pieces time to naturally degrade and deteriorate. Visitors will be able to observe the process over time. Photographic images will be periodically taken, creating a record of change and degradation, as the works’ eventually merge into the landscape of the Mill.
Melin Medi will coincide with a textile symposium at The National Wool Museum and a programme of exciting textile events taking place during September and October in Carmarthenshire, West Wales.
New Mill, Drefelin, Carmarthenshire, SA44 5XB.
