“Reflections and Shadows”, a group exhibition at The Yarrow Gallery

Earlier this year, Kathryn Parsons was invited to create a new body of work for exhibition at the National Centre for Craft and Design in May-June this year.

"I decided to take British corals as my theme, and was privileged to receive an invitation from a curator at the Natural History Museum, to explore the corals held in their collection and discover their stories. Among the many wonders were an antique bottle entirely encrusted by corals, and miniature star-shaped specimens nestled safely in old round boxes. There were cup corals collected off the Dorset coast more than a century ago, still attached to the rocks on which they grew, and others that had been found in Wales, Scotland and Cornwall. With these rich sources of inspiration from the Museum, I created a collection of exquisitely crafted, fictional, hand-made porcelain corals. Combining porcelain with found objects and ephemera, each sculpture invites us to imagine its own story of a time long ago when something precious was found... and became a treasure."

In August, Kathryn will be taking a selection of her corals to "Reflections and Shadows", a group exhibition at The Yarrow Gallery, Oundle, Cambridgeshire. "Reflections and Shadows" will include paintings, ceramics, textiles, mosaics and jewellery created by fourteen selected artists and artisans. The exhibition is open daily 31st July - 6th August from 10am to 4pm.
