Bilston Craft Gallery is the largest publicly funded venue in the West Midlands region to be dedicated to the applied arts. It consists of three exhibition spaces, including a large temporary exhibition space, a community gallery, and a permanent exhibition in the introductory gallery called Craftsense.
Craftsense celebrates the links between local historic manufacturing skill and modern craft practice. The exhibition focuses on five media that are significant in the historic trades of the Black Country: metal, ceramics, leather, glass and enamel. Contemporary loans of craftwork in these materials are featured alongside examples of excellence in regional manufacture from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries, such as Bilston enamels, and locally made steel-cut jewellery. Craftsense is an interactive and multi-sensory exhibition so the majority of the contemporary pieces are on open display, inviting visitors to explore the qualities of the work through touch.
Contemporary work featured in Craftsense changes on an annual basis to keep the exhibition fresh and exciting for repeat visitors. Craftsense is currently seeking potential exhibitors who make high quality, innovative work in the fields of ceramics, leather, metal, enamel or glass to feature in the exhibition for 2012-13.
If you would be interested in loaning a piece for the exhibition, please supply a current CV with details and images of the work you would have available from September 2012 to October 2013 BY 9AM MONDAY 11th JUNE 2012. Please inform Craftsense if you would be happy for the work to be carefully touched by visitors, as the items are on open display and gentle interaction with the exhibits is encouraged. Email applications are preferred but please limit emailed images to a maximum of 5, each file should be less than 1MB; larger files can be submitted on CD. Contact Details:
